This train was not formally named by the Southern Railway until the summer of 1929. The train with restaurant facilities had through coaches for Weymouth and Swanage that were detached at Bournemouth. Withdrawn from the timetable in early September 1939, the train unlike the Bournemouth Belle was never reinstated. However after the war an all-new express was introduced along the same route and this named for the Festival of Britain in 1951 as The Royal Wessex.
