Introduced by the Southern Railway in 1931 as a luxury Pullman Car express operating between London Waterloo and Bournemouth. It ran only as a full weekly service during the summer months, running only on Sundays during the winter months. However, due to its popularity from the beginning of 1936 it ran as an all-year service. Initially there had been a Weymouth portion but this had been discontinued from 1932. The service was suspended for the duration of the War but was re-introduced in 1946.
