Originally introduced by the London Midland and Scottish Railway in 1927, the service was re-introduced after the War in 1949. The service was dropped from the timetable in 1966. The train had two sets of carriage boards, the blue set featured the coats of arms of London and Manchester. The Maroon set was more regularly used.
