Designed and introduced towards the end of the Second World War, these distinctive coaches had a short life with the GWR before transferring to British Railways in 1948. Unlike destination boards previously used by the Great Western, these for Hawksworth designed stock were three feet shorter (than standard GWR roofboards) and carried on the Cantrail area.
When the Great Western Railway introduced the Hawksworth stock, the destination boards for these were painted white with plain black sans serif lettering. These were carried on the Cantrail area between the roof line and windows.
